Grade 3 Math Curriculum:
JES implements the Common Core State Standards for mathematics in Grade 3. The standards are set up so that students spend time on fewer, but more important concepts. Students will learn to think fast and solve problems that relate to real world situations. Each day, students will spend 75 minutes working on the following topics:
Module 1: Properties of Multiplication and Division and Solving Problems 2-5 and 10
Module 2: Place Value and Problem Solving with Units of Measure
Module 3: Multiplication and Division with Units of 0, 1, 6-9, and Multiples of 10
Module 4: Multiplication and Area
Module 5: Fractions as Numbers on a Number Line
Module 6: Collecting and Displaying Data
Module 7: Geometry and Measurement Word Problems

Homework:
Periodically (usually about once a week), students will bring home math practice pages as a review and reinforcement of skills and topics covered in class. Some of these strategies and models may be unknown or unfamiliar to you. If your child finds an assignment or problem challenging, you can support your child by encouraging them to “show what they know” in order to continue to grow as a learner.
Other ways you can support your child include:
-
ask your child to explain how they found their answer
-
ask them about the concepts they are learning
-
challenge them to find different ways to solve the problem
-
refer your child to our classroom website to utilize available resources
As always, please feel free contact me by e-mail, phone, or notes in the agenda with any questions or concerns! Your support is GREATLY appreciated!
